ABOUT

Learning how to read a technical drawing is a key element for working in all the Art Department, Props, Construction and Set Decorating teams – you may not have to create them, but knowing what to look for and finding the relevant information is an important part of the job.

Rod McLean is one of the UK’s most established and experienced Senior Art Directors. He has over 35 years experience of working on a wide range of features, with credits including Wicked, Jurassic World: Dominion, Empire of Light and The Marvels.

 Rod will be working with the group and will be looking at the following: 

• examples of good and bad drawings – what works, what doesn’t and why

• understanding the layout and knowing where the key information should be

• learning where the plans, elevations and sections are in the drawing

•  using the information in props, set decorating and construction teams

•  setting up systems for successful filing and cataloguing

•  checking the scale and printing of the drawing

•  the correct equipment for drawing
